Parenting coaching is designed to assist parents with challenges associated with becoming a co-parent and parenting your children during a separation and divorce process. Parenting coaching is:
- Short-term, solution focused
- Directive, focused on aligning legal strategy with appropriate behaviors
- Psycho-educational – assisting client in learning specific skills for behavior and communication with spouse in light of litigation
- Parenting focused – help client better understand and address the impact on children of moderate to high conflict divorce
- Provide psychological, emotional containment and cognitive/behavioral strategies in light of high stress situations with spouse
- Develop more effective coping strategies which address both lifestyle (e.g. sleep, eating, exercise, social support alcohol use, etc.) and specific stress management strategies (e.g. mindfulness skills, relaxation and breathing skills; use of imagery and basic mediation skills)
- Better understand emotional triggers for self and spouse and learn how to manage more effectively
Parenting coaching is intended to be a non-testimonial role.
Non-testimonial coaching with counsel assists with better understanding and/or deconstructing a mental health professionals work product. Dr. Lefkowits can also assist in developing questions for depositions and cross examinations of mental health professionals.
